I think Ryzen is great if one needs to do parallel computation with CPU, it definitely kills off 6900k completely. (except for memory hungry task)
However, in gaming it is significantly slower than 7700k, where the latter costs almost just half with the price drop.

Benchmark is super inconsistent at the moment. I have seen 1080p results with 1080 and 1080 Ti from 1800X lagging 10% behind stock 7700K to 1700 on par with 7700K @ 5 GHz...

Only if the games support more than 4 threads.
With most games which do not use more than that, there is no magic from a lower IPC, lower core clock Ryzen.
