If I am to build a desktop without overclocking, is it wise to buy this over 2600k?

According to this site they are structurally same besides the built-in GPU.

sorry, it cannot, just read from the site.

Update: on further study, they are supported on consumer board where stated.
So you may find one support board in the market, but I don't know.

本以为Xeon无法使用桌面级芯片组的主板,但实际上机之后发现完全不存在问题,至少测试平台使用的ASUS P8P67-M PRO(P67)没出现任何不兼容的现象.下图为主板BIOS中正确识别了CPU的信息.

And I found that Asrock board supports E3-1220, I am asking them if they can confirm the compatibility with E3-1230.

No, according to a reply from Asrock, one just need to upgrade the BIOS to 1.3 or above for the Z68 board to support this, I am confirming with them.

Xeon is impressive for a lower TDP, higher performance and probably stability.
