just finished reading that article

+20% CPU performance, not too bad, at least better than Intel CPU performance growth.
need to re-think to use this rather than 6300

really $1.5k?

Sounds great for HTPC, 512 GCN cores (or slightly fewer) should be adequate for almost all post-processing for video playback,
the ability to use madVR well is something not possible for Intel at the moment.

not really,
- A10-7850K cost $1400 ~1500 , and not readily available in Hong Kong

- need new Socket FM2+ board , another $7xx
- and you can't beat 2 more threads in multi-tasking
- Except Llano , all "New" APU have thermal Throttling issue,
AMD know Trinity have it , didn't fix it with Richland, and no one mention the issue being resolve in
Kaveri.

- New APU/AMD Product tend to have lousy driver and immature BIOS support, usually need 6~9months to "mature"

- Don't forget your FX-6300 can OC too, I undervolt and run it at 3.8GHz (Turbo @ 4GHz, which is the same as Turbo A10-7850K)
and FX have 8MB L3 cache

AM3+ MB is a problem. My friend's one is missed

don't want to use ATX board
