Last week at its Financial Analyst Day presentation, AMD revealed that 45nm Phenom processors will be dubbed Phenom II X4 and the first models will launch at the next Consumer Electronics Show in early January. Right on cue, Expreview has now reworked its predictions with a new roadmap and full model numbers for several future Phenoms. While previous documents led us to believe Phenom II X4s would carry five-digit model numbers, Expreview says AMD will go with three digits. Expect the following two chips to come out at CES, then: a 3GHz Phenom II X4 940 and a 2.8GHz Phenom II X4 920, both with 125W thermal envelopes and Socket AM2+ compatibility. The chips will be followed by Socket AM3 derivatives with DDR3 memory support in February. Assuming some Chinese guy didn\'t just make this roadmap up completely, upcoming 45nm Phenom CPUs will run at 2.5-3GHz and feature thermal envelopes between 95W and 125W. If AMD remains as aggressive with pricing as it has been lately, Intel\'s 45nm Core 2 Quads could finally get some serious competition. AMD should be able to focus its initial efforts on beating the Core 2 Quad line, too, since low-end Core i7 derivatives aren\'t due out until the second half of next year.
