For me, I don\'t really overclock for much higher performance,
I will just spend some time at the beginning t gain as much as I can.
For example, when I was using my E6850(default 3GHz), i just overclock it and find that it can operate at 3.4GHz without losing stability, I just adopt it and will not push it to further.

for me, I found that 3.8GHz is a sweet point for i7 - 920, for both power consumption and heat generated.
speed over 3.8GHz just rise the heat and power rapidly with little performance gained.

For me
I keep my 955BE @ 3.6GHz , any further "push" will result more "heat" than performance gain
