I do agree OpenWRT's response is much faster.

In fact dd-wrt sucks,
the only good of it is the readily available functions like VPN and FTP, which can be installed manually in OpenWRT or other distro.
While dd-wrt has poor compatibility, very buggy for different builds and usually worse performance over stock firmware.
