At the end what counts is the result, as a user it is not important why you end up slower.
From Anandtech they did attribute part of the reason to the Java engine of Safari (maybe better implemented) regarding the difference in browser score,
that is to say, if Apple managed to score better with an actually inferior CPU, well.
