Intel\'s upcoming G45 and G43 IGP chipsets are expected to see shortages in the third quarter due to a recent switch in Intel\'s production allocation, according to sources at motherboards makers.

Intel 4 series IGP chipsets for desktops and notebooks are expected to be in short supply due to the discovery of a defect (now corrected) in the graphics core and well as low yields. As a result Intel has decided to adjust its production schedule and given priority to the GM45 and GM47, both notebook chipsets.

First-tier motherboard makers are expecting to only receive small quantities of G45 and G43 chipsets while second-tier makers may see even less, if any. The sources expect the problem to be solved by August, in the meantime makers are planning to throw in extra resources to P45-based motherboards to maintain basic shipments.

Intel declined the opportunity to respond to this report.

Hardly surprising...

Lately there\'s an article at o/cers.com saying Intel is always relunctant (and sometimes too late) to correct problems as a means to cut cost...
