Sideport itself is not a good product. But it doesn't mean that packing together with memory chips is not a good idea, especially when cost-efficiency, bandwidth and capacity are all demanded to be in the same memory system.

Heterogeneous memory is the way to go, as I don't see the possibility of memory within package boundary and no more DIMM modules in at least 5-7 years. But the current problem is how the system is going to manage two different types of memory.
