As mentioned by the above,
If you have a smart phone and will be tethering, you may just get the WiFi version to save some hundreds.
And 3G may not be enough nowadays, tethering via a LTE supported phones maybe what you would do frequently later, which the built in 3G of the iPad may become less meaningful.
