From the aspect of random access, the advantages over harddisks do project to user experience(Booting time, Multitasking with demanding I/O).
But don't pick too old SSD(older than Intel G2) and 2nd Hand is not suggested; you won't know how the SSD is stressed by its previous owner and how long it can serve.
