Puff
is that the TSV you keep saying MAY save AMD or kill it ?
I saw this in the comment section and someone said this guy is Former AMD employee
He's Carrell. You should know this name when going through the success of RV770 and Evergreen.
Anyway, TSV is essentially the next step of the industry, and Intel's IDM model benefits the time-to-market of their TSV products. The foundries are also looking for improved business model to facilitate better TSV manufacturing chain. Therefore, TSV of course won't kill AMD, but it doesn't either give AMD an significant advantage to others, as it will tie AMD tighter to the foundries it relies on, namely GlobalFoundries, thus resulting a higher risk. Let alone TSMC, as the current WSA between GF and AMD limits AMD to GF for all its microprocessors except several types, likely GPUs and chipsets, of chips.
I think we'll see the low-power lines from GF next year, eh, unless AMD intends to extend the limited wavier of exclusivity for APUs in TSMC.
