Taiwan-based IC suppliers have been receiving more short lead-time orders for USB Type-C solutions from notebook vendors and ODMs recently, indicating that the Type-C interface is likely to become mainstream in products in the second half of 2016, according to industry sources.

The adoption of Type-C interface chips by the top-three notebook vendors has helped improve order visibility for related chips, said the sources.

The rapid adoption of Type-C by notebook players will encourage makers in the desktop, smartphone, tablet and other mainstream consumer electronics sectors to follow suit, added the sources.

Taiwan-based IC suppliers including ASMedia Technology, JMicron Technology, Prolific Technology, VIA Labs, Alcor Micro, Parade Technologies, On-Bright Electronics and Etron Technology are expected to see their sales performance improve significantly in the third quarter, commented the sources.
