Wanted to build one for long, but not until the installation of BB1000 I find it critical.
Here is the config:

CPU : Intel Celeron G530
MB : Intel DH61WW
RAM : Kingston DDR3 1333 2GB x2
Storage : WD 320GB
PSU : Antec ECO 400C
Chassis : SilverStone SG-02F
1st NIC : Intel 82579V
2nd NIC : Intel 82574L
Switch : FXG-08EP
Total : ~$2200(No Harddisk)

OK, kick off the assembly:

CPU is on its pad:

Then MB is on its land:

Install the CPU cooler, a stock one from E3-1235, it is better that G530's given. Sure it will suffice.

Throw the PSU inside:

Take a look at those cords, you will know why a modular PSU costs:

It's ready then.

Next step will be the real trouble: install the OS.

Finally pfsense, as ClearOS can't even install due to the new NIC 82579V.......
While pfsense supports it, and it seems working now.

An estimation:
On BT, DL speed reaching 40MB/s, the CPU utilization of router is 20%,
implying for 1000Gb/s, utilization will be like 60%, in which G530 will be enough but not well.

plugging the NIC to the 16x slot would be a better choice as you don't need going through the H61 which maybe the bottleneck

G530+H61 = ~700 ja
Whole system = ~2k ja......much cheaper than your AV/Lens/Benz/House la
Sadly I stuck at an error of "there was an error configuring the network interface" and cannot install ClearOS, maybe due to the new NIC.
But now pfsense is also not working well......trying to fix....

Now sticking with pfsense 2.0.1, it has native supports on all my hardware.
very easy, just install using an USB, a quick-easy installation is available and automatically configure it.
You just need to set the WAN and LAN interface, then it becomes an ordinary router.

With CPU clock restricted at 1.6GHz, Turbo Boost disabled,
A test is conducted using Iperf provided by HKBN, the following are the CPU utilization(almost constant) during the test:

Btw,
the malfunction of the router was found to be caused by the broken 3.5" WD 320GB.......wasted me a few hours to figure out using WD checking tools.
Now a 2.5" WD 320GB is used, fixed by using Bluetabs as SilverStone SG-02F doesn't support the installation of 2.5" harddisk XD

Previously the speed test had CPU clocked at 1.6GHz with Turboboost off, let's see if there is any change if clock is left at default:

I have run a few test the the results are consistent, which is around 30% at the speed.
Download and Upload shouldn't show much difference, but the refresh rate of CPU utilization is too slow to be accurate to confirm if there exist a few % difference.

Didn't find a way to do so, I simply set the multiplier, the lowest available is 16.
Anyway, I would just leave it at default as there doesn't seem a great difference.
