Baker stressed that, contrary to what\'s been reported in the press elsewhere, the acquisition will be a takeover rather than a merger, which means that AMD is going to be wearing the trousers in its relationship. Baker said that \'the company is being bought, so it\'s fairly standard that the name should go, as it\'s becoming a part of AMD.\'

Chris Hook from ATi shrugged off the move, saying that \'I don\'t have a personal emotional attachment to it [the brand], one way or another. I think the important thing is that we\'re going to make good products. ATi may be gone, but certainly lots of discussion is going to come over the next few days about the rest of our brands and their strengths.\' Could the next Radeon chip be AMD branded? Watch this space.

What AMD is thinking to undermine its long time partner....
And I am interested to see Nividia\'s reponse

IF this is true,
then NVIDIA will be the true winner as the competitor is "eliminated".

I doubt that...
An "AMD brand" graphics card for AMD CPU will erode Nvidia\'s market share within AMD platform.

I beg to differ.

Who\'s more famous in graphic cards industry? AMD or NVIDIA?

People buying computer parts based on past experience and brands. Very few people will analyse performance and reviews before they buy. And VERY few among these people will really weight the gain and losses and make an objective buying decision.

So, who has past experience with AMD\'s graphic cards? None.

People stereotyped ATI and NVIDIA as 2 leaders in gaming graphics industry. If ATI\'s gone, then NVIDIA is the only one left.

Do not under-estimate stereotyping and brand loyalty these days.

And NVIDIA will continue to enjoy their market share in high-end professional graphics market.

But what ppl think are interesting, there are always ppl think about matching brands, there were even ppl asking if ATI video card will work on nForce platform or vice versa.
Don\'t u think the idea of AMD CPU+GPU will attract this kind of (brainless) ppl?

Yes and No.
All depends on the (poor) AMD marketing department.
